Comparación de los efectos de los genes Opaco-2 y Harinoso-2 en el peso y densidad en grano en maices tropicales

Abstract

Cincuenta mazorcas segregantes fenotípicamente para Opoca-2 (o-2) y 50 para Harinoso-2 (fl-2) se utilizaron para estudiar en cada una el peso, volumen y densidad de los granos segregantes comparados a igual número de los respectivos normales. También se compararon entre sí los efectos de los dos mutantes. Se encontró que ambos genes ocasionan disminución altamente significativa en el peso: 13.13 y 9.04% para o-2 h fl-2 respectivamente. En volumen, fl-2 ocasionó un aumento de 3.58% que fue altamente significativo. o-2 no modificó estadísticamente el volumen (98.94%). En ambos grupos se encontró gran variabilidad que permite seleccionar los tipos más pesados o más voluminosos. El efecto en la densidad relativa fue similar en ambos segregantes. ABSTRACT: Fifty ears segregating phenotypically for Opaque-2 (o-2) and 50 for Floury-2 (fl-2) were used to study in each one the weight, volumen, and density of the segregating kernels compared with equal number of their respective normals. Also the effects of both genes were compared between them. It was found that both genes reduced the weight significantly: 13.13 and 9.04% for o-2 and fl-2 respectively, fl-2 increased volumen in 3.58% that was highly significant. o-2 did not change the volumen statistically (98.94%). Much variability was found in both groups that allows for selection of the heavier o bigger types. The effect on the relative density was similar for both genes.
